A victory of diplomacy and a milestone of the Iranian nuclear crisis. Iran has finally emerged from years of economic isolation, as U.N. nuclear watchdog rules it has curbed its nuclear programme as promised, clearing the way for sanctions to be lifted.

"Today I released a report confirming that Iran has completed the necessary preparatory steps to start the implementation of the joint comprehensive plan of action.This paves the way for the IAEA to begin verifying and monitoring Iran's nuclear-related commitments under the agreement as requested by the United Nations Security Council and authorised by the IAEA board. Relations between Iran and the IAEA now enter a new phase. It is an important day for the international community. I congratulate all those who helped make it a reality especially the group of countries known as the E3, EU plus 3, Iran and the IAEA board," said Yukiya Amano, director general of International Atomic Energy Agency.

IAEA chief to visit Iran on Sunday

Amano says the IAEA will continue to monitor Iran's nuclear activity. He will pay a visit to Tehran on Sunday. The trip will include discussion of the watchdog's enhanced inspections role to ensure Iran's continued compliance with the July agreement
